Handheld dosing unit – OnDosis

The pharmaceutical company OnDosis turned to us at ALTEN Sweden with the idea of developing a handheld unit dosing the medication for the user – a project soon to be a reality.

ALTEN Sweden had the task to develop an approach for simplifying the dosing of medications. A lot of the medicine today is pellet based, which means that the user often has to keep track of tablets. In turn, the dosing of the medication holds a great potential for innovation and development. In the project, we have a close collaboration together with OnDosis, covering all areas from medical technology and pharmaceuticals to mechanics and electronics. This is also where ALTEN has its strength, that we are broad and offer expertise in a variety of areas.

We are developing medical technology of the future together with OnDosis, and have created a functioning prototype of a handheld unit that feeds out the medicine for the user. A pre-set handheld unit dosing out pellets. The doctor sets the dosage for the patient and, when revisiting, it is easy to adjust the dose, making it easier and clearer for the patient. In addition, the control is also increased, which is especially important for patients with for example ADHD, dementia or an unstable home environment. Since the unit is connected to the net, the user can easily track its latest dosage and receive reminders in case of forgetting to take the medicine. This way taking too much is avoided which contributes to a safer and less worrisome atmosphere for all parties involved – patient doctor and close ones. OnDosis is a truly exciting project and has the potential of becoming a game changer for the entire pharmaceutical industry!
