The goal in this thesis suggestion is to develop the analysis methods used to predict durability of a conventional bushing for cars. The field of fatigue has a long history in steel structures, but with increasing complexity in design and new materials today, there is also a need to improve the fatigue methods to extend to these new applications. Below the current work process is shown, together with the highlighted area open for investigation and improvements.

Job / Skills

Objectives:
- Perform a literature study to identify the key methods and software for predicting rubber durability. Investigate also what is used at Volvo Cars corporations and CEVT

- Develop with the support of CAE engineers finite element models and methods. Suggested commercial software to compare; MTS RPC, nCode+Abaqus, WAFO+Abaqus. What methodology to use, setup and boundaries, etc. How to present damage on part

- Conduct a parameter study of the ingoing parts and physical properties in order to optimize both the analysis and design.

- Validate the analyses with both analysis and test data.
